Gaza Girl Maryam Survives Israeli Strike Fire That Martyred Her Mother

The Voice of Ummah: The story of little Maryam Ahmed Ghanem, who survived a fire sparked by an Israeli strike in Gaza City’s western al-Rimal neighborhood, has moved people around the world. Her mother, Reem Awad, was martyred in the attack, while her father had been martyred at the start of the war, leaving the two-and-a-half-year-old girl an orphan.

According to Al Jazeera, Israeli warplanes struck a residential apartment near the Abu Talal junction in al-Rimal at dawn on Wednesday, martyring Reem Awad and wounding several others. Five Palestinians were martyred in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip that day.

Gaza girl Maryam: Pulled from the flames, left an orphan

The Palestinian Information Center (PalInfo) reported that the bombing turned the apartment into a mass of flames, trapping Maryam inside. Then came the cry of a young man, Ali al-Jaafarawi: “O God, there are children screaming, alive,” setting off a race against death that ended with the girl being pulled from the fire. Eyewitnesses told PalInfo the blaze was so intense that she could not have been saved had the young men not heard her cries. Maryam was brought out with burns and serious wounds.

A civil defense worker told PalInfo that rescue teams repeatedly see children and civilians burning in front of the cameras. The report said shortages of medical supplies and antibiotics, linked to the closure of crossings, are increasing the risk to patients with severe burns, and that about 42,000 wounded people in Gaza suffer serious, lasting injuries, including amputations and severe burns.

Israeli attacks on Gaza continue despite ceasefire

Anadolu reported that four Palestinians were wounded, one critically, in an Israeli drone strike in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of northern Gaza City on Thursday. Witnesses said the drone targeted a person passing in front of a cafe, severing one of the victim’s limbs. In southern Gaza, Israeli warships fired more than 40 times along Rafah’s coast over about two hours, while in Khan Younis occupation troops fired toward tents sheltering displaced Palestinians.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli violations of the ceasefire in effect since October 10, 2025, have killed 1,505 Palestinians and wounded 5,332 others. Since October 2023, the US-backed Israeli offensive has martyred more than 74,000 Palestinians and wounded over 175,000, and destroyed 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure.
