Gaza women and girls are paying the heaviest price of Israel’s war. According to the Palestinian Information Center, UN Women said on Friday that nearly 50,000 women and girls have been killed or severely injured by Israeli forces since October 2023, equivalent to one in every 21 women and girls in the enclave.
Gaza Women: 38,000 Killed, Thousands Disabled for Life
“More than 38,000 killed and 11,700 left with injuries so severe that they now live with lifelong disabilities,” UN Women’s chief of humanitarian action Sofia Calltorp told reporters in Geneva. She said 277 women and girls were killed over the past year despite the October 2025 ceasefire. UN Women said miscarriages reached almost 4,000 in the first six months of 2026, triple the previous six months, and that nearly one in four households is now headed by a woman.

20,000 Patients Await Treatment
In a separate report, the Palestinian Information Center said Gaza’s Health Ministry counts 20,719 patients and wounded people on waiting lists for treatment abroad, including about 5,000 children, while more than 1,344 have died waiting. Rafah crossing reopened only in a limited way on February 2, 2026, and just 2,480 patients left by September 2, about 12 a day. Medicine shortages have reached 47%, rising to 61% for cancer drugs.
