Strait of Hormuz to Stay Closed Until Iran’s Rights Respected: Army Chief

The Voice of Ummah: The commander-in-chief of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, Major General Amir Hatami, has declared that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and will remain closed until the enemy fully respects the legitimate rights of the Iranian nation. He said the strategic waterway is under the complete supervision of Iran’s armed forces and dismissed claims that it is open as false.

According to Press TV and Mehr News Agency, General Hatami made the remarks on Thursday evening at the closing ceremony of the 11th National I’tikaf Festival, held at Imam Ali Officers’ University in Tehran. “The Strait of Hormuz was closed immediately at the start of the war, remains closed today, and will remain closed until the enemy respects the rights of the Iranian nation,” he said.

Strait of Hormuz under joint IRGC and Army control

The Army chief explained that the western section of the Strait of Hormuz is managed by the Navy of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), while the eastern section and the Sea of Oman are controlled by the Army Navy. Traffic, he said, has been sharply restricted, and no hostile vessel has been able to enter Iranian maritime zones in the area except for a few that were engaged with multiple firings.

Mehr quoted General Hatami as naming four pillars of Iran’s power: the people, the armed forces, the governance structures and the country’s geopolitical position. All four, he said, caused the enemy’s calculations to fail completely. He added that in the early days of the war imposed by the United States and Israel, the Iranian nation entered the fray spontaneously, relying on its own capabilities, a point also stressed by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.

“A response several times greater”

General Hatami said salvoes of missiles were fired at enemy positions in the very first hours of the war, and that the Army and the IRGC kept up their operations despite the martyrdom of a large number of commanders and officials. According to Press TV, he warned that any threat to Iran’s infrastructure would trigger a response several times greater in scale, hitting the infrastructure and interests of the opposing side, the Israeli regime and any country that cooperates with it. Iran’s armed forces, he said, remain fully prepared along the borders for any scenario.

Iranian forces took operational control of the Strait of Hormuz in response to the start of the US-Israeli aggression on February 28. Tehran says coordinated passage is possible only for non-hostile vessels after authorization from Iranian authorities, while shipping linked to the aggressors remains barred. Press TV reported that Iran has tied any full reopening of the strait to the restoration of its national rights, including an end to aggression, the lifting of illegal sanctions and blockades, and the fulfillment of commitments under previous understandings.
