The 66th Malaysia International Quran Competition concluded in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. According to Malaysia’s national news agency Bernama, 50 reciters and memorizers from 38 countries, 34 men and 16 women, took part in the event, held under the theme “MADANI Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati.”
Recitation winners
Bernama reported that Indonesia’s Muhammad Fauji Ridwan won the men’s recitation category with 94.67 points, followed by Malaysia’s Cik Hasnul Taqiyuddin Cik Sazali and Belgium’s Brahim Boughalab. In the women’s recitation, Malaysia’s Nur Syakura Mohamad Musa won with 91.83 points, ahead of Singapore’s A’tiiqah Suhaimi and a reciter from Brunei.

Malaysia International Quran Competition: memorization
In the men’s memorization category, Bangladesh’s Ehtishamul Hoque Hira and Syria’s Abdul Rahman Jamal Ibrahim both scored 97.00, with the Bangladeshi hafiz declared champion on accuracy and tajweed marks. Niger’s Chafaatou Issoufou won the women’s memorization with 96.17 points, followed by competitors from Libya and Myanmar.
Prizes were presented by Malaysia’s religious affairs minister, Dr Zulkifli Hasan. Champions received RM40,000 in cash, a trophy and an Umrah or travel package. Iran’s IQNA news agency said the ceremony at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur drew religious officials, foreign ambassadors and a large crowd. The competition began on Tuesday.
