Kashmiri leaders say the “Kashmir model” has reached Delhi. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti called the clampdown on protests in the Indian capital a “chilling reminder of Kashmir after the unconstitutional abrogation of Article 370,” when “people were locked in their homes, the internet was shut down, and an entire region was placed under siege,” The Indian Express reported.
Kashmir model, then and now
Mufti said the BJP had “brazenly claimed that nobody had protested” in 2019, adding: “First crush the protest, then deny it ever happened.” Chief Minister Omar Abdullah wrote late Friday that the “Kashmir model has been exported to Delhi,” where central areas are under a 24-hour mobile internet blockade from 10 p.m. Friday. Both leaders were detained under the Public Safety Act during the 2019 lockdown, and 4G services in Jammu and Kashmir were not fully restored until February 2021, the paper noted.
Srinagar rallies against ‘vote chori’
According to Kashmir Dot Com, INDIA bloc parties held protest marches across the Valley on Saturday against alleged “vote chori” and irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In Srinagar, Congress, National Conference and PDP workers gathered at the Congress headquarters on M.A. Road, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police stopped them from marching to the main road, and they later dispersed peacefully. Similar protests were held in district headquarters.
