Latin America is joining today’s global day of action for Palestine. According to the Brazilian labour federation CSP-Conlutas, protests are being held worldwide on Oct. 10 in solidarity with the Palestinian people, marking 1,100 days since the start of Israel’s genocide in Gaza in 2023.
Global day of action for Palestine: 200+ groups
CSP-Conlutas said the day, organised by the Global Alliance for Palestine, brings together more than 200 civil society organisations, trade unions, student federations and human rights networks on six continents under the slogan “Defend the Land, End the Genocide.” Large demonstrations were called in cities including London, Sydney, Cape Town, Rabat, Quito, Mexico City, Istanbul, Reykjavik and Bangkok. In Sao Paulo, protesters were to gather at 2 p.m. in Praca Roosevelt.
Students and unions march in Santiago
Chilean broadcaster BioBioChile reported that the Santiago march was to start at noon at Metro Universidad Catolica and proceed to Los Heroes. It is organised by Solidarity for Palestine University of Chile and the University of Chile Students’ Federation (FECh), with the Palestinian Community of Chile, Amnesty Chile and public-sector unions taking part. Journalists, doctors and lawyers were to march in professional blocs in solidarity with their Palestinian colleagues.
Protesters are demanding an arms embargo on Israel, tougher international sanctions and the suspension of trade agreements. Organisers cited UN OCHA figures recording more than 1,600 settler attacks in the West Bank by September 2026.
