Oman urges de-escalation once again. Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi held a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to discuss regional developments, stressing the need to step up efforts to contain tensions and consolidate calm, the Oman Observer reported on Saturday.

According to Oman’s Foreign Ministry, Sayyid Badr expressed the Sultanate’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its rejection of attacks on civilian facilities or any threat to the safety of civilians. The two ministers agreed on the importance of continued coordination and consultation, saying that calming tensions would create favourable conditions for political dialogue and the peaceful resolution of all issues and crises, safeguarding the region’s security and stability.

The Yemen war backdrop
The call comes as fighting between Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and Ansarullah has intensified. According to Al Jazeera, UN special envoy Hans Grundberg told the Security Council on Friday that Yemen had effectively slid back into “full-scale war”, with Ansarullah targeting Saudi airports and coalition forces heavily bombarding Sanaa. Separately, The Peninsula reported that Oman currently presides over the seventh session of the UN conference on establishing a Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, a chairmanship that ends in November 2026.
