Israeli Strikes on South Lebanon Target Wadi al-Hujair

Israeli strikes on south Lebanon continued on Saturday, with warplanes targeting Wadi al-Hujair and the vicinity of Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Kfar Tebnit. Al-Manar TV described the attacks as a flagrant violation of Resolution 1701, international law and Lebanese sovereignty.

Drone strike and artillery shelling

According to the Lebanese news site Waradana, an Israeli drone fired two guided missiles at the Al-Hariq neighbourhood between Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Kfar Tebnit early in the morning, before warplanes struck Kfar Tebnit. Loud explosions were heard as far as Sidon and its eastern surroundings.

Anadolu Agency, citing Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA), reported that Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of Haddatha and Baraachit as well as the Wadi al-Saluki and Wadi al-Hujair valleys, while the outskirts of Maifadoun and Kfar Tebnit came under intense fire. Al-Manar said the outskirts of Zoutar al-Sharqiya were also shelled and illumination flares were fired over Majdal Zoun. Israeli drones flew at low altitude over Baalbek, Bnaafoul, Maghdouche, Zaita, Anqoun and Ghaziyeh.

Attacks despite the framework deal

According to Anadolu, the attacks continue despite the US-sponsored framework agreement reached by Beirut and Tel Aviv on June 26, which provides for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by Israeli forces. Israel nevertheless continues to attack southern Lebanon and still occupies parts of the country.
