Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has urged the United States and Iran to return to the negotiating table based on the previously brokered Islamabad agreement. In an interview with the UAE-based English daily The National, Ahmad emphasized that while there is currently limited willingness from both sides to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Islamabad remains committed to continuing its diplomatic mediation efforts.
Ambassador Ahmad clarified that Pakistan maintains open and active high-level contacts with both Tehran and Washington. He stressed that the best path to resolving the current situation and reaching a comprehensive, final agreement is through renewed dialogue, noting that the Islamabad MOU provides a robust framework covering all unresolved issues between the two nations.

Expressing optimism about future breakthroughs, the Ambassador recalled that Pakistan successfully brokered a ceasefire in April during a period of severe escalation. He stated that if Islamabad could bring both parties together for the MOU during a crisis, it can certainly succeed in bringing them back to negotiations now. The previous 12-day conflict and US strikes against Iran during Ramadan occurred while indirect talks were ongoing, a timing that created the impression Washington was not genuinely pursuing meaningful dialogue.
