ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday hailed the “true and special relationship” between Pakistan and the United States, which has lasted nearly eight decades.
Addressing an event marking the United States’ 250th anniversary, PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted cooperation between Islamabad and Washington in security, counter-terrorism, energy, science, trade, investment, agriculture, education, health and people-to-people exchanges.
He recalled that the US was among the first countries to recognise Pakistan after independence. PM Shehbaz also thanked former US President Donald Trump for his role in securing a ceasefire between Pakistan and India in May last year following the Pahalgam incident.
“We shall forever remain grateful to President Trump for restoring peace in South Asia,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted Pakistan’s role as a mediator between the United States and Iran, expressing hope for long-lasting regional peace. He also appreciated the efforts of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in advancing bilateral ties.
US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker described Pakistan and the US as “true strategic partners” under the leadership of PM Shehbaz Sharif and President Trump.
