The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has warned of the danger posed by the Israeli occupation’s plans to undermine the political, historical, and legal status of the city of Hebron.
The OIC noted that the latest such plan was the Israeli Finance Minister’s decision to strip the Hebron Municipality of its powers over the Ibrahimi Mosque, the Old City, and surrounding areas, and to revoke the Hebron Agreement.
The General Secretariat emphasized that Israel, as the occupying power, has no sovereignty over the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including Hebron and its holy sites. It renewed its call on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to protect the Ibrahimi Mosque and the Old City of Hebron, which are inscribed on UNESCO’s List of World Heritage in Danger.
