According to Al Mayadeen militants from the ISIL terrorist group carried out the attack in the northern outskirts of Raqqa province.
Before ISIL claimed responsibility Syrian local media cited the countrys Defense Ministry as saying that two individuals were killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen in the village of al Wasita in northern Raqqa countryside.

ISIL later announced it was behind the assault.
