Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH) organised a Hindu-Muslim Unity Convention in Lucknow on Saturday, bringing together religious leaders and public figures to promote communal harmony amid rising social polarisation. The gathering focused on justice, interfaith relations, and the need to strengthen national unity through mutual respect.
In his address, JUH president Maulana Arshad Madani emphasised that politics rooted in hatred and religious division does not serve the country’s interests. He asserted that India’s true strength lies in peace, mutual respect, and communal harmony. Madani highlighted the collective sacrifices made during the freedom struggle, noting the significant contributions of Muslims and Islamic scholars alongside people from all communities. He urged that no community’s role in India’s independence should be overlooked.
Madani stressed the underlying unity of faiths, pointing out that while modes of worship may differ, all religions ultimately affirm belief in one supreme God. He drew parallels between the Hindu chant “Om Namah Shivaya” and the Islamic declaration “Allahu Akbar,” both reflecting the supremacy of the divine.

The Jamiat chief criticised the proposed demolition of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur. He argued that while legal or procedural violations should be addressed, demolishing an educational institution before completing due process would be unjust and severely impact thousands of students. Any action, he said, must strictly follow the rule of law.
Madani also called for constitutional and judicial resolution of disputes. He described divisive politics as a threat to social trust and national unity. On the “One Nation, One Election” proposal, he advocated wider consultation and debate. Regarding the Gyanvapi mosque issue, he urged acceptance of the Supreme Court’s final verdict for a lasting solution.
Concluding his speech, Madani appealed for peace, brotherhood, and justice, stating that India’s progress depends on rejecting hatred and fostering social harmony.
