ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday dismissed a review petition filed by Zahir Jaffer and upheld its earlier verdict confirming his death sentence in the Noor Mukadam murder case.
Noor Mukadam, aged 27, was brutally murdered at Zahir Jaffer’s residence in Islamabad in July 2021. She was tortured before being beheaded. Zahir Jaffer was sentenced to death by a trial court in February 2022. The Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court had previously upheld the sentence.
A three-member bench comprising Justices Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Salahuddin Panhwar and Ishtiaq Ibrahim heard the review petition on Thursday. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court announced its decision to dismiss the review plea.

Following this ruling, the only remaining option for Zahir Jaffer is a possible presidential pardon under Article 45 of the Constitution. The case had shocked the entire country in 2021 due to its extreme brutality. The Supreme Court’s decision is being seen as a strong affirmation of justice in one of Pakistan’s most high-profile murder cases.
