The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit concluded in Bishkek with the adoption of the Bishkek Declaration, strongly condemning the recent US-Israeli military strikes on Iran. The member states declared that these actions, which caused numerous civilian casualties and the tragic assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, are severe violations of international law. The 10-member bloc reaffirmed its push for an equitable multipolar world order and supported Iran’s right to a peaceful nuclear program.

Addressing the summit, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that the US’s renewed policy of pressure and its violations of recent memorandums could derail diplomatic peace efforts. Following retaliatory strikes after an American attack on Larak Island, Pezeshkian proposed major economic initiatives, including an SCO bank, an energy consortium, and a strategic security studies center. He also held a high-level meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who reaffirmed Moscow’s unwavering economic and political solidarity with Tehran amid the ongoing conflict.
