Russian President Putin Reaffirms Strong Support for Independent Palestinian State

Russian President Vladimir Putin supports independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as capital

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed his country’s firm support for the implementation of United Nations resolutions and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Speaking during a plenary session of the international Russian Energy Week forum on Thursday, Putin described the current situation in Palestine as “terrible” and stressed the urgent need to minimize civilian casualties.

He noted that while the original vision was for two states – Israel and Palestine – the Palestinian state has never been realized, and significant parts of Palestinian territory remain under Israeli occupation.

Putin warned that any expansion of the conflict could have serious consequences. He emphasized that Russia’s position on the Palestinian issue has remained consistent for decades, and that a lasting solution is impossible without the creation of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Russia continues to call for the full implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions on Palestine.
