Iran Demands Immediate Release of 50% Frozen Assets in Any Deal with US

Iran demands release of frozen assets and end to US aggression

Iran has stated that at least 50 percent of its frozen financial assets must be released immediately upon the signing of any memorandum of understanding with the United States.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi told Mehr News Agency on Thursday that Tehran will only accept any draft agreement if its national interests and concerns are fully addressed.

“At minimum, the Islamic Republic of Iran insists that 50% of these funds be made available to Iran immediately upon the signing of the memorandum of understanding,” Gharibabadi said.

He added that the remaining funds should be unblocked within a short timeframe of no more than one to two months. Gharibabadi stressed that these assets belong to Iran and have been illegally frozen by the United States.

Iran also demands the immediate lifting of the illegal US naval blockade on Iranian ports, full reparations for damages caused by the US-Israeli war of aggression, and an end to hostilities on all fronts including Lebanon. Tehran has further demanded compensation from several Arab countries that allowed their territories to be used for attacks against Iran.

The Iranian official made it clear that any agreement must respect Iran’s sovereignty and national interests, while warning that patience has limits and any new aggression will face a strong and decisive response.
