Iran Blames US for Stalled Negotiations Due to Changing Positions and Ceasefire Violations

Iran says US changing positions stall negotiations

Iran says ongoing negotiations with the United States remain stalled primarily because of Washington’s “changing and contradictory” positions and constantly “moving the goal posts,” although the exchange of messages continues through Pakistani mediators.

In an exclusive interview with CNN on Sunday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said messages continue to pass between Tehran and Washington via Pakistani intermediaries.

“The main problem of negotiating with this administration is that you have to face so many changing positions, moving the goal posts, different statements, contradictory remarks by different officials,” he said.

Baghaei reiterated that the US must recognize Iran’s rights, including peaceful nuclear enrichment, and unconditionally release billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets. He also accused the United States of violating the April ceasefire by attacking Iranian commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and on the high seas.

The Iranian spokesman warned that Iran’s Armed Forces are ready to respond forcefully to any attacks.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi delivered a special message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei during his visit to Tehran on Sunday.
