Gwadar Port Tax Cut: Pakistan reduces port charges to attract shipping companies and boost regional trade

Pakistan has reduced charges at Gwadar Port under its strategy to make it a regional logistics and transit hub. Container ship costs have been cut by 25 percent international transit container costs by 40 percent and transit cargo port charges by up to 31 percent.

Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said that one month free storage facility has also been provided for transit goods. He said these incentives will help attract shipping companies increase economic activity in Balochistan and create employment opportunities.

Experts believe that the ongoing war and insecurity in the Persian Gulf have exposed the weakness of Arab countries economies which can increase the importance of Pakistani ports especially Gwadar and Karachi.
