Asim Munir Tehran Visit: Pakistani Army Chief Meets Iranian FM Araghchi to Advance Peace Efforts

Chief of the Pakistani Army Field Marshal Asim Munir, who has traveled to Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials, met Friday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to advance diplomatic initiatives.

The meeting took place on Friday and continued late into the night. The two sides exchanged views on the latest diplomatic efforts and initiatives to prevent further escalation and end the US and Israeli aggression against Iran, as well as strategies to strengthen peace, stability, and security in the West Asia region.

The Pakistani Army described the purpose of Munir’s visit as part of ongoing mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.

On February 28, the United States and Israel initiated an unprovoked war against Iran. Iran responded with powerful retaliatory strikes. A Pakistan-mediated ceasefire took effect on April 8, but talks have faced challenges due to deep mistrust and the continued US naval blockade on Iranian ports. Iran has refused to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the blockade is lifted.
