Pentagon Admits US Troop Deaths in Iran War Rise to 21

The Pentagon has admitted that US troop deaths in Iran war operations have risen to 21, after adding two deaths that had not previously been counted. According to Anadolu Agency, the US Department of Defense revised its official figures late Friday, and now lists 865 US service members wounded in the operations.

US troop deaths in Iran war: two deaths left off the count

Citing The Washington Post, Anadolu reported that the Pentagon’s casualty database now lists 21 military deaths connected to the operations against Iran. The newly included deaths are those of Maj. Sorffly Davius, 46, an Army National Guard member who died in Kuwait on March 6, and an unidentified Navy service member who died by suicide in September.

Two senior Democrats on the House Armed Services Committee, Adam Smith and Chrissy Houlahan, said in a joint statement that “there is no excuse for a mistake of this magnitude,” calling the need for congressional intervention to correct the figures “an embarrassment” for the military. The Pentagon did not directly address the revised toll.

Trump’s claims, Tehran’s reply

At a campaign rally in Tennessee, Trump claimed Iran would “probably do a little bit extra before the election,” ahead of the November 3 midterms, adding: “But we could end it really quick,” Anadolu reported.

Responding to Trump’s claim that Iran could strike Los Angeles and San Diego, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said US rulers invent an imaginary enemy in the sky to frighten their own people, while the real danger is a ruling establishment that has imposed an illegal war on the world, Tasnim and IRNA reported. Iran’s Defense Ministry spokesman, Brig. Gen. Reza Talaei-Nik, said this week that weapons production had risen 2.5 times in the seven months after the war, according to Press TV.
