University of Miami professor Tamay M. Ozgokmen and retired U.S. Colonel Anthony Aguilar have warned that recent Iranian military actions against American vessels could mark the beginning of the end for 80 years of U.S. military supremacy. Ozgokmen described the developments as a major global shift, suggesting that Iran is effectively pushing American forces out of the Persian Gulf.
In a recent discussion with political commentator Mario Nawfal, Aguilar provided further context regarding the escalating maritime threats. He confirmed that Iran’s newly introduced anti-ship ballistic missile, the ‘Qasim Basir’, is specifically designed to sink American warships. He emphasized that the recent deployments are not mere warning shots but represent a calculated targeting strategy.

Aguilar highlighted the geographic vulnerabilities currently facing the U.S. military, noting that 11 American naval vessels are surrounded in waters whose geography is deeply familiar to Iranian forces. This geographic disadvantage is compounded by severe logistical constraints.
According to the retired colonel, the U.S. currently has a very limited capacity to maintain the operational readiness of these warships. With facilities in Bahrain and other regional ports facing attacks, American forces are increasingly forced to rely on distant logistical hubs. Operations are now heavily dependent on Diego Garcia, located approximately 2,000 miles away, and the port of Duqm in Oman, drastically extending supply lines in a rapidly changing global landscape.
