Iran Self Defense Strikes Against US Aggression in Persian Gulf: Abbas Araghchi

Iran self defense strikes against US Israeli aggression in Persian Gulf

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Iran’s armed forces are conducting legitimate self-defense strikes on sites in the Persian Gulf region that the United States uses to attack civilian shipping and violate the ceasefire.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Araghchi referred to remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a congressional hearing, where Rubio admitted that the UAE and Kuwait worked extensively with Washington in the war on Iran.

“Our armed forces are conducting self-defense strikes on sites the US is permitted to use to attack civilian shipping and violate the ceasefire,” Araghchi said.

“Any hostile act will be met with an immediate, decisive response. What sanctions and war failed to achieve won’t be won with more war.”

The IRGC carried out strikes on the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and a US air base in Kuwait after the US attacked an Iranian vessel and Qeshm Island. Rubio’s comments confirmed the active role of Persian Gulf states alongside the United States in the war against Iran.

This admission came while Washington continues its naval blockade of Iranian ports and uses bases in Persian Gulf states to launch attacks on Iranian military and civilian infrastructure in the ongoing US-Israeli war of aggression that started on February 28, 2026.

Iran has clearly stated its right under Article 51 of the UN Charter to defend itself against aggression. Iranian forces have targeted American military assets in the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar, which are being used to attack Iran and break the fragile Pakistan-brokered ceasefire in place since early April.

The US-Israeli war began with airstrikes that assassinated the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and hit nuclear facilities, schools, and hospitals. Iran responded strongly with 100 waves of retaliatory strikes under Operation True Promise 4.

Although a fragile ceasefire has been in place since April, US naval blockade and continued use of Persian Gulf bases are increasing tensions. Iran has demanded a complete end to the war, lifting of all sanctions, and full withdrawal of US forces from the region for any final agreement.
