Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman briefed the parliament on Thursday, stating that if the founding countries of the Mecca Agreement extend an invitation to South Asian states, Bangladesh will positively consider becoming a part of the pact. He clarified that the matter of joining is ultimately contingent upon the intentions of the concerned parties.
The Foreign Minister assured the parliament that before making any final decision regarding participation in this significant agreement, a detailed review of national interests and all potential benefits will be thoroughly conducted to ensure the country’s broader welfare.

During the briefing, Khalilur Rahman described the Mecca Agreement as a robust defense framework for the Muslim Ummah. He stated in clear terms that this pact is purely an internal matter of the Islamic world and the Muslim family, warning that no external power should harbor unjustified concerns over it.
Meanwhile, opposition leader and the Emir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman, endorsed the government’s stance in a recent Facebook statement. He emphasized that joining the Mecca Agreement is Bangladesh’s own sovereign decision, asserting that if a step is taken in the wider interest of the nation, external entities have no reason to be worried.
