Oman has defended its position on collecting transit and maritime service fees in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Omani officials, the country does not support the imposition of tolls, but will hold negotiations with countries and companies regarding transit costs, maritime services, and environmental matters.

This statement comes amid ongoing discussions about the management of the Strait of Hormuz following the recent Iran-US memorandum of understanding. Iran has asserted its sovereign right to manage and charge for services in the strategic waterway. Oman is expected to coordinate with Iran on future administration of the strait.
The development highlights the importance of coastal states’ rights in ensuring safe and regulated navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes.
