Iran Rejects Politicized IAEA Resolution, Vows to Protect Peaceful Nuclear Rights

Iran rejects politicized IAEA resolution against its peaceful nuclear program

Iran’s mission to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna says the Islamic Republic will protect its inalienable rights in response to a “flawed” resolution passed by the UN nuclear agency’s Board of Governors.

The resolution, submitted by the United States, Britain, France and Germany, was adopted with 21 votes in favor, three against and 10 abstentions.

“Today, the Board of Governors adopted, with a shaky vote, another political resolution on Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, devoid of the professionalism expected from a technical body,” the Iranian mission said in a statement.

The statement strongly questioned how the IAEA can remain silent on the most extensive unlawful armed attacks on safeguarded nuclear facilities in its history while being used by warmongers. Iran, China and Russia jointly condemned the politicization of the issue.

Iran reaffirmed its commitment to the NPT and its inalienable right to peaceful nuclear energy, while stressing that sustainable solutions require an immediate end to all attacks and threats.
