Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif announces major progress in Iran-US peace talks

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States to end the war is “closer than ever,” with finalization expected within the next 24 hours.

Sharif, whose country has been mediating the talks, stated in a post on X on Saturday that an electronic signing ceremony would follow immediately after finalization. Technical-level talks are scheduled for next week.

“We are closer to a peace deal than ever before,” he wrote, hailing the commitment shown by both Tehran and Washington.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also confirmed that the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” has never been closer to completion. He described the 14-point draft as a comprehensive package that remains under discussion.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi held consultations with the ambassadors of Russia and China in Tehran regarding the latest developments in the draft memorandum.

Pakistan continues its active mediation efforts to help achieve a lasting and honorable peace.
