TEHRAN: Top Iranian officials, heads of state, foreign dignitaries, and high-ranking delegations from across the world have paid their respects to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as massive funeral ceremonies continue in Tehran.
The multi-day state funeral, expected to draw between 15 and 20 million mourners, began on Friday with the Leader’s body lying in state at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla. Foreign delegations from more than 100 countries have arrived to attend the historic event.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces General Asim Munir are among the prominent attendees. China sent He Wei, vice chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and other senior officials welcomed the delegations. The ceremonies will continue with a major funeral procession in Tehran, followed by rites in Qom, Najaf, Karbala, and burial in Mashhad on July 9.
