Iran condemns EU sanctions over Strait of Hormuz

Iran has strongly condemned the latest European Union sanctions targeting Iranian individuals and institutions, describing the measures as politically motivated and an infringement on the rights of the Iranian people.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi rejected the sanctions on Monday, saying they reflect a clear double standard by European governments.

Gharibabadi called the EU move a “hypocritical political act” and stressed that Tehran will not change its policies under external pressure. He accused European countries of ignoring the illegal US naval blockade on Iran, which he described as an “act of war.”

Iran reaffirmed its sovereign right to regulate maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and rejected all accusations underlying the sanctions. Tehran maintains that its actions are fully consistent with its legal responsibilities.
