Araghchi US Talks: Iran Says Uranium Enrichment Reached Stalemate, Warns US Cannot Be Trusted

Araghchi US Talks: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addresses uranium enrichment and US trustworthiness in New Delhi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Iran and the United States have almost reached an impasse over the very complicated issue of uranium enrichment which is not on the agenda of talks for the time being.

Araghchi made the remarks on Friday while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers meeting in New Delhi. He thanked Russia for its proposal but said the enrichment issue is very complicated for Iran and has reached a stalemate with the Americans so it must be postponed to later stages of negotiations.

He added that the transfer of enriched uranium may be discussed in future talks and Iran will stay in contact with Russia.

Araghchi said the United States is not trustworthy at all as it sends contradictory messages and makes irrational statements. He stressed that trust is the most important issue and everything must be precise and clearly defined before any agreement.

He pointed to warmongers trying to sabotage diplomacy and expressed hope that America will not make another mistake. Araghchi noted that Trump first called Iran’s response completely unacceptable but then sent messages wanting to continue talks.

He said the US started the war on February 28 and is confused about its goals and exit strategy. Araghchi reaffirmed that Iran defended itself and is ready for full-scale war if needed but prefers diplomacy and a just solution.

He reiterated that Iran has a peaceful nuclear program and does not seek nuclear weapons. Regarding the Strait of Hormuz Araghchi said it is open to all vessels except those from hostile countries that participated in the war against Iran. He said Iran and Oman are working on a mechanism for safe passage.

Araghchi held the US responsible for insecurity in the region due to its illegal naval blockade and expressed confidence that normal conditions will return once the violations end.
