Iran World Cup Warning: Tehran Demands Fair Treatment for National Team at 2026 Tournament in US

Iran has warned that hosting the World Cup must not become an instrument of political pressure or selective behavior against any national team.

Writing on his X account Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said the host country has a clear obligation to ensure equal respectful and non-discriminatory participation for all qualified teams.

Visa entry accommodation travel presence of official delegations and match conditions must not become tools for political pressure or selective treatment he said.

Gharibabadi stressed that Iran’s national football team has earned its right to participate under FIFA regulations and any obstruction would violate the spirit of international sport.

He reminded that the FIFA statute explicitly prohibits discrimination and urged both the host country and FIFA to uphold the principles of equality non-discrimination and neutrality. Any unlawful restriction against Iran’s delegation would seriously damage the credibility of the World Cup he warned.

Sport is an arena for athletic competition not a continuation of pressure politics he added.
