Western countries sanction Israeli settler violence networks in occupied West Bank

They have imposed coordinated sanctions targeting networks involved in financing, facilitating and carrying out settler violence against Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

The measures were announced on Tuesday jointly by France, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Norway amid a surge in settler attacks and record expansion of illegal settlements.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said the sanctions target those responsible for intensifying colonization and violence. Britain also urged its citizens and businesses to avoid all economic activity in illegal Israeli settlements. Rights groups criticized the measures as insufficient and called for broader sanctions on senior Israeli officials.
