A striking social media trend has emerged in France as non-Muslim women and men wear headscarves in solidarity with Muslim women. This digital protest on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X is a direct response to the far-right National Rally (RN) party’s controversial plans for the 2027 presidential elections.
RN lawmaker Jean-Philippe Tanguy recently announced that if his party gains power, women wearing headscarves in public spaces will face strict financial penalties. Furthermore, party leader Marine Le Pen stated her intention to bypass parliamentary hurdles by bringing this public headscarf ban to a national referendum.

In defiance, many content creators who do not normally wear a hijab are filming themselves covering their hair with various scarves. This growing solidarity movement aims to highlight the discriminatory targeting of Muslim women and protect religious freedom across the country.
Protesters are widely sharing messages like, “If this law passes, I will wear one too,” intending to make the proposed ban impossible to enforce by 2027. The viral campaign has even seen men join in, actively sharing tutorials on how to tie a headscarf as a sign of unified resistance against the extreme right.
